Resolve to do These Things with your Smoke Alarm!

If you have a list of new year’s resolutions, be sure to include some regarding one of the most important life-saving devices in your home: your smoke alarm. As an established dealer of Delaware alarm systems, we encourage you to resolve to do these things in 2013:

Resolve to do These Things with your Smoke Alarm

Check your smoke alarms on a monthly basis. Normally, this can be done by pushing the test button on the front cover and listen for a warning signal. If there is no sound, that means that the smoke alarm is not working. Try replacing the battery – and if that doesn’t work, you need a new alarm.

Speaking of batteries, replace them once a year. Smoke alarm batteries should be replaced once a year in order for the alarm to keep working. New Year’s Day is a great time to do this, because it is easy to remember and easy to keep you consistent every year. When you change your smoke alarm batteries on the first, that means you are putting safety first – just like you teach your kids to do!

Follow NFPA guidelines for smoke alarm installation. Although this is not required by law, the National Fire Protection Association recommends that families have a working smoke alarm on every floor of the house and outside all sleeping areas. They also advise you to have all of these alarms integrated with each other so that when one sounds, they all sound. As a leading provider of Delaware alarm systems, B Safe Security also strongly advises you to do this. The NFPA knows what it is talking about!
